REWIND- Catherine Ryan Howard

REWIND: a masterfully unsettling psychological thriller to remember!

This is an explosive story about a murder caught on camera. You’ve already missed the start. To get the full picture you must rewind the tape and play it through to the end, no matter how shocking...

From the very beginning, the book is fast-paced and an enthralling read including how it begins: Andrew, the manager of Shanamore Cottages watching a guest being murdered!

The premise is inspired, and this alongside chapters that regularly switch between pause, rewind and fast-forward helped keep a high level of tension and suspicion throughout the book. There were also timings on the chapters and whilst I raced through the chapters eagerly in search of answers, on reflection I have since wondered if there was any further significance.

The story is cleverly written and whilst I had my suspicions and had guessed the perpetrator, the way the book is put together meant that I had by no means connected ALL the dots and was fully invested in the book as I wanted to know reasoning and more details. Likewise, Catherine Ryan Howard’s vast array of incredibly creepy and peculiar characters, without a doubt contributed hugely to the development of the story, suspense and overall mystery of this book and satisfied my thirst for memorable, high-quality characterisation, something that I always look for in a great read. I organised a read along for this book and the early theories for some of the characters were really interesting- everyone regarded the characters as a contributing factor to the overall enjoyment of the book. As with all good thrillers, the setting didn’t disappoint and the writing provided the reader with vivid imagery; it’s no surprise as a reader you got sucked into the pages.

If you love a good thriller, then this is one not to miss!

5 stars.

I was gifted this book by Atlantic Books in exchange for an honest review and organised a read along in collaboration with Atlantic Books.
