THE TAKING OF ANNIE THORNE: deliciously creepy and dark!

A great mix of horror and thriller, Tudor’s second novel packs a punch. The book is an atmospheric narrative that is full of tension and suspense that is maintained from start to finish. The story follows Joe Thorne as he faces his past when he returns to his childhood village Arnhill as a teacher. As the book unravels it alternates between the present and 1992 the year that Thorne’s sister goes missing and then returns a different Annie to previously. This makes for a pacey and gripping read and subsequently a page turner!

As a huge fan of thrillers- particularly psychological thrillers- for me what makes this book such an incredible read is that I was never really sure where it was going. I was in a state of constant suspicion and whilst I had hunches, with the twists, turns and reveals it still always had me guessing. Tudor has successfully pieced together a masterful plot that keeps interest at an optimum and with a large array of peculiar and complex characters that added to the mystery it’s no surprised that the result is such a chilling, heart-pounding read.

An all consuming read, I spent the entire book questioning every detail, and loved the ride! I was fully invested in the character development and throughout was thirsty for more details! I will definitely be reaching for Tudor’s debut- The Chalk Man.

I was kindly gifted this book by Michael Joseph Books (Penguin books) in exchange for an honest review.

5 stars.
